In the past, I have scoffed at, made fun of and even justified my reasons for not dieting. It never appealed to me. I never thought it was for me. But after trying all kinds of things, the weight that I had put on during my second pregnancy was just not coming off. I didn’t have the time to exercise (I honestly don’t) for the amount of time it would have taken me to start shedding pounds. Moreover, I felt, more than exercise, I needed to control what I put in my mouth. Being a hard core foodie and an amateur food blogger makes this part all the more difficult. I was not able to find the right balance between cooking and controlled eating. [Read on…]
Almost everyone I know truly and honestly believes that their mom makes the best food in the whole world and I understand that. I also think that they are correct in their own right. But I have been known to be an exception in that area. I just don’t know how not to say my mind. I have no problems telling my mom that her version of kheer or Kadhi sucks but her Rajma is truly the best in the whole world (Seriously! They are that awesome.) or for that matter so is her besan ka chilla. [Read on…]
People lie! They do it all the time. A lot of people, over the course of time, have lied to me too. They said ” Oh! Labor is not that bad” Oh ya, really? Then after my son was born, they said “Now the fun part begins.” I thought of countless ways to strangle them while staying awake most nights for the first few months. Then they said “Hey, once they turn 7-8 months, that’s the best time.” [Read on…]
There are two kinds of people in this world. One, who take a below-average dish and eat it as if it’s the most delicious thing they’ve eaten since the beginning of TIME. And then there are those, who take an epic dish and eat it like they have just tasted sour grapes. Fortunately and unfortunately, I have seen both kinds, in action and let me tell you this, it’s no fun watching the latter. They make everyone sitting with them, lose their appetite too. [Read on…]
As a mother of two kids, it gives me nightmares to think that my older one will be going to school next year. Every few days, I hear some heartbreaking and scary incident in school which makes me want to homeschool my child. Now, I know that we need more strict gun control in this country but my biggest problem is with the schools themselves. I come from a very small town (Jodhpur) in India and even there, my school gates would close when the school started and remain closed during school hours. [Read on…]
If Gods ate breakfast, ever wondered what would that be? Well, am pretty sure, it would be something similar to Acai (Ah-sigh-EE)Bowl. Acai berries have been termed as the super food for quite some time but I couldn’t get my hands on them as they are not available easily. But then I read about acai purée and acai concentrates being available in specialty food stores and it was like I had found a treasure!
Few months back, while going through some food magazine, I came across acai bowls. [Read on…]
I never had any Sindhi friends growing up nor any Sindhi neighbors. Even my parents had no Sindhi friends. 😯 To say that I had no Sindhi influence in my life what so ever, would not be incorrect. It was my huge loss that my palate and Sindhi cuisine hadn’t been introduced until now!! Because of that, I have been deprived of Dal pakwan all of my growing up years. Do you think I am being over dramatic? Wait till you try it and you might end up feeling betrayed too. [Read on…]
