December 15, 2020 by morethancurry

It’s festival time!! It has taken me a good 10 years to enjoy and celebrate festivals in a way they are truly meant to be. And I think it has a lot to do with my kids. Earlier when it was just husband and I, what ever little or more that we did to celebrate them, was enough for us. [Read on…]

Hyderabadi Veg Biryani

November 24, 2020 by morethancurry

A year and half ago, my wonderful neighbors were going to a Diwali potluck at a friend’s place. Before they left, they came to wish us and during the exchange of greetings, sweets and food, I found myself holding a box. To my sheer delight, my hyderabadi friend had given us a dabba full of Hyderabadi Veg Biryani that she had prepared for the potluck. If you felt a pang of envy on reading this, you are justified. After all, it’s not everyday that you get to eat the Mughal delicacy. [Read on…]

Rajma Chawal

September 25, 2020 by morethancurry

I firmly believe that Rajma Chawal should be declared the national comfort food of India. With all due respect to the dal-Chawal, Idli-dosa and Khichdis, its Rajma Chawal that makes people nostalgic, home-sick and specially mom-sick. Everyone I know, claims that their mom makes the best Rajma Chawal in this world!!! And I totally believe that. That’s the best part about Rajma Chawal. Its simple, duplicable and tastes divine. What more can you ask of a dish?

Rajma Masala Powder

September 5, 2020 by morethancurry

Do you know at least one person who makes that one dish so awesome that no matter how many times you get the recipe from them, you can never exactly replicate it? And then after you have slogged in the kitchen for an eternity, your family tastes it and says “Nah it’s not the same. It’s good but it’s not that. ” Because I know such a person for more than 3 decades. It’s my mom and that dish is her Rajma Chawal. Whenever anyone tasted my mom’s Rajma, they asked for its recipe. And it doesn’t matter how many times she gave her recipe to them, they came back saying “It didn’t taste the way yours did.” [Read on…]
